Hi there! My name is Dora. Welcome to my blog, Adorably Grown!
A Tiny Urban Garden
I started my first garden (a couple of Earthboxes® and flower pots crammed onto an upstairs balcony) after receiving a few of tomato and pepper plants from a coworker.
After a few months of babying the heck out of those poor little plants, I was hooked! The vegetables I grew that summer were tastier than anything I had bought at the grocery store and fresher than the farmers market.
I also loved the satisfaction of being able to grow food for myself, and the quiet respite of my little garden at the end of a the work week. Over the next three years, the garden expanded into the tiny strip of land behind the condo I was living in at the time.
Moving to the Farm
A few years later, my boyfriend at the time (now husband) asked if I wanted to start a garden on his farm the following summer. After attempting to grow everything on my gardening bucket list in a tiny urban garden and always running out of room, I of course said yes!
Later that month, he was out on his tractor tilling up our first vegetable bed on Christmas Day! In the spring, an herb garden and a second vegetable bed were added. That first summer on the farm, we grew enough vegetables to feed us for a year, in addition to many of our friends, family, and a flock of chickens.
Eventually we became a USDA Certified Organic farm, expanded our vegetable beds and opened a roadside stand. Thanks to our neighbors and friends for buying our produce, we love growing healthy food for you and appreciate your support!
The Blog
Throughout my gardening journey, I have developed a passion for researching the heck out of every question and problem I encounter, and turning that knowledge into action that yields awesome vegetables!
My professional background is in pharmacy and infectious diseases. I have worked in education, research and clinical settings, where daily decisions are well-researched and evidence based. I aim to bring that same approach to the world of garden blogging! My inner teacher also loves to share knowledge with others on a similar journey. Whether that be growing your first garden or building a small farm, I can help.
I look forward to growing alongside you and sharing our journey at Adorably Grown!
Happy Gardening 🙂
